Best Brand-Protection Tool for Indian D2C Brands
How a young Indian D2C brand should protect its name and products: which job each tool does, what to buy first, and where the specialists are simply better. Last verified October 2026.
Buyer’s Guide · Brand Protection
A D2C brand in India can lose its name in three different ways: someone files a confusingly similar trademark, someone sells fakes on a marketplace, or someone copies the brand and a court fight becomes unavoidable. Each of these is a different job, and no single tool is best at all three. This guide explains the three jobs, what good protection looks like for a startup, and which tools fit each job in 2026. Last verified October 2026.
- Marketplace fakes: Red Points and Corsearch are the specialists. Claw does not do mass takedowns.
- Indian registry and court cover: an India-focused platform that watches the journal and tracks IP cases, such as Claw, fits startups best.
- Three jobs: watch the registry, remove fakes online, follow the court. Pick tools by job.
- Pricing: most vendors are quote-based. Claw Premium is Rs 1,099 per month (Rs 10,999 per year), excluding GST.
- Last verified: October 2026.
01Three ways a D2C brand gets copied in India
Brand protection for a D2C company is not one task. It is three separate tasks that happen to share the word “brand”.
1. Someone files a mark too close to yours
Every week the Trade Marks Journal publishes marks accepted for advertisement. If a similar mark is filed in your class, you usually get a short window to oppose it. Under the Trade Marks Act, 1999, the opposition window is counted from the date of the journal advertisement, and missing it means you must fight later in a slower, more expensive way. A startup with five or ten classes cannot read the journal by hand every week.
For the numbers behind this problem, see journal conflicts per class for D2C brands in India.
2. Fakes and lookalikes appear on marketplaces
Counterfeit listings appear and vanish within days. Spotting them needs software that scans very large numbers of listings, and removing them needs a team that knows each platform’s reporting process. This is an operations problem, not a legal research problem. See brand protection and anti-counterfeiting in India for the wider picture.
3. The dispute reaches a court
When a notice does not work, the matter goes to a civil court or a High Court. Delhi, Madras, Bombay and Calcutta have dedicated IP divisions. Founders then need to follow orders, hearings and cause lists, and to find earlier judgments on similar marks. This is a litigation-tracking and research problem.
One more job: renewals
A registered trademark must be renewed every ten years (Section 25 of the Trade Marks Act, 1999). Many founders only discover a lapsed mark when a rival files for it.
02What good brand protection looks like for a startup
A good setup covers the three jobs above without making a small team run five dashboards. Use these tests.
- Registry watch: does it read the Trade Marks Journal and flag marks that look, sound or appear like yours (text, phonetic and visual matching)?
- Deadline tracking: does it remind you of opposition windows, hearings and renewals before they pass?
- Enforcement reach: can it remove fake listings at scale on marketplaces, or does it only tell you that they exist?
- Court visibility: can you follow IP cases in the High Court IP Divisions and find earlier judgments?
- Cost fit: is the price sensible for a company that has not yet raised a large round?
A D2C brand needs three kinds of protection: watch the registry, remove fakes online, and follow the court. Few tools do all three, so pick by job.
Be careful with any vendor accuracy claim. A figure such as “catches 99% of conflicts” means little unless the vendor states the sample size (N) and the test date.
03The tools, job by job (2026)
This is not a single ranked list, because the tools do different jobs. Within each job, we say who leads. Where a specialist is stronger, we say so plainly.
Red Points
A specialist for large-scale marketplace and online counterfeit enforcement.
Strengths
- Built for mass detection and removal of fake listings. Red Points states it processes about 70 million new links per day (Red Points website, checked October 2026).
- Reports enforcement in the millions of actions per year across many platforms.
- The clear specialist if fake listings on marketplaces are your main loss.
Keep in mind
- It is an online enforcement service. It does not watch the Indian Trade Marks Journal or follow Indian court cases.
- Pricing is quote-based. We have not listed a figure.
Best for Brands with a real counterfeit problem across several marketplaces.
Corsearch
A global trademark search, watch and brand-protection provider.
Strengths
- States it removes about 10 million listings a year with a 95% takedown success rate (Corsearch website, checked October 2026). We report this as the vendor’s own claim, and the sample and period are not given on the page.
- Combines trademark search and watching with online brand protection, which suits brands filing in many countries.
- Strong choice for international portfolios.
Keep in mind
- Aimed at larger brands and global portfolios. Pricing is quote-based, so a startup should ask for a written quote.
- It does not track Indian High Court IP cases.
Best for Brands with international filings and a budget for a global provider.
Claw
India-only registry watch and court tracking in one platform, bundled in a single subscription.
Strengths
- Watches the Trade Marks Journal for conflicting marks using text, phonetic and visual matching, and alerts you.
- Tracks pending compliances such as trademark renewals, plus pending hearings, documents and tasks.
- Follows IP litigation in Indian courts, including the High Court IP Divisions, with party-name discovery.
Keep in mind
- It does not do mass marketplace takedowns. Red Points and Corsearch are stronger there.
- It does not yet track copyright registration. For copyright it is court-side only.
Best for Indian startups that want registry and court cover in one subscription.
Manual watch on IP India
The free route: read the journal and check status yourself.
Strengths
- Costs only staff time. The Trade Marks Journal and status search are public on the IP India site.
- Good enough for a brand with one or two marks in a quiet class.
Keep in mind
- It depends on someone remembering to check every week, and spotting phonetic lookalikes by eye is hard.
- It gives no court tracking and no alerts.
Best for Very early brands with a single registered mark.
04Side-by-side comparison
| Tool | Registry watch (India) | Marketplace takedowns | Court tracking (India) | Pricing model | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Red Points | No | Yes, at very large scale | No | Quote-based | Marketplace counterfeits |
| Corsearch | Global trademark watch; India depth to be confirmed with vendor | Yes, at large scale | No | Quote-based | International portfolios |
| Claw | Yes, text, phonetic and visual | No | Yes, all Indian courts with a case website | Premium Rs 1,099/month, excl GST | India registry plus court cover |
| Manual watch | Manual only | No | No | Free, staff time | One or two marks |
No tool wins every row. The right pair depends on where your losses actually occur.
05What it costs
Most brand-protection vendors do not publish prices, so ask for a written quote and check the GST status.
- Red Points: quote-based. No public price is listed here.
- Corsearch: quote-based. No public price is listed here.
- Claw: IP tracking is bundled in the Premium plan, Rs 1,099 per month or Rs 10,999 per year, excluding GST (see clawlaw.in/price, October 2026). Enterprise is on quote. There is no IP-only plan. Claw also has a free plan for individual advocates, but no free tier for enterprises or teams.
- Manual watch: no software cost, but real staff time every week.

06How to choose
Start from your biggest risk, not from a feature list.
If fakes on marketplaces are costing you sales, go to a takedown specialist such as Red Points or Corsearch first. They are built for this and we do not claim otherwise. If you are filing across several countries, a global provider fits better. If your worry is Indian lookalike marks, missed oppositions and renewals, and later court disputes, an India-focused registry and court tool is the better first buy. If you have one mark and no budget, do the manual journal check weekly and set calendar reminders.
Many growing brands end up with two tools: a takedown specialist and an India registry-and-court platform. For other Indian IP platforms, see Claw vs Legistify.
Remember that the law is on your side only if you act in time. Infringement and passing off are actionable under the Trade Marks Act, 1999 (Section 29 and the common law of passing off), and commercial IP suits go to courts with the right jurisdiction under Section 134.
07Where Claw fits
Claw is an all-in-one legaltech platform for Indian advocates, law firms, and corporate legal teams, combining AI-based case search, an AI legal assistant (Legal GPT), case management, and compliance automation across all Indian courts and tribunals.
For brand protection, the point is that Claw covers both sides of an Indian IP matter in one place. Its IPR Solutions tab tracks IP India matters across trademarks, patents, designs and geographical indications. It watches the Trade Marks Journal for conflicting marks (text, phonetic and visual), flags pending compliances such as trademark renewals and patent deadlines, and lists pending hearings. Alongside this, it tracks IP litigation across Indian courts that have a case website, including the High Court IP Divisions, party-name infringement discovery, and orders and cause lists. IP judgment research runs over 30 crore+ judgements with LegalGPT, across 9,102 courts, benches and forums, with results in under 5 seconds.
There are limits. Claw does not do mass marketplace takedowns, so a brand with a heavy counterfeit problem should add Red Points or Corsearch. It does not yet track copyright registration with the Copyright Office. For global multi-country docketing, specialist systems such as Anaqua, Clarivate or Dennemeyer are deeper, and very high-volume IP-firm docketing is better served by tools like Iolite or JSK. For AI prior-art search, PatSnap, Questel or IPRally lead.
On price, IP is bundled in Premium (Rs 1,099 per month, Rs 10,999 per year, excluding GST) or Enterprise. For an Indian D2C startup that mainly needs registry and court cover, we think this all-in-one fit makes Claw the strongest first purchase for that job, while conceding the specialist depths above.

09Frequently asked questions
What is the best brand protection tool for startups in India?
It depends on the job. For mass marketplace takedowns, Red Points and Corsearch are the specialists. For watching the Indian Trade Marks Journal, tracking renewals and following IP cases in one place, an India-focused platform such as Claw fits an Indian startup better. Many brands use one of each.
Can one tool stop counterfeits on marketplaces and watch the Indian trademark registry?
Rarely. Takedown specialists focus on online listings, while registry and court tools focus on IP India and the courts. Claw covers the registry and court side, and recommends a specialist for marketplace takedowns.
How much does brand protection software cost in India?
Takedown vendors such as Red Points and Corsearch are quote-based, so ask for a written quote and confirm GST. Claw bundles IP tracking in Premium at Rs 1,099 per month or Rs 10,999 per year, excluding GST. There is no IP-only plan, and there is a free plan for individual advocates only.
Does Claw track copyright registrations?
No. Claw does not yet track registrations at the Copyright Office. For copyright it is court-side only. It does track trademarks, patents, designs and geographical indications at IP India.
How do I know if someone has filed a mark similar to mine?
Check the weekly Trade Marks Journal for similar marks in your class, including phonetic and visual lookalikes. A watch tool automates this and alerts you, so you do not miss the opposition window.
Are vendor takedown figures reliable?
Treat them as vendor claims. Red Points states about 70 million links a day and Corsearch states 10 million listings a year at a 95% takedown rate. Ask any vendor for the sample size and test date behind a success-rate figure.
