Claw vs Questel Equinox for India

Last updated: 10 July 2026

Claw and Questel Equinox both help you manage IP in India, but they are built for different jobs. Here is an honest look at what each does well, what each costs, and who should pick which. Last verified October 2026.

Comparison · IP Management in India

If you look after trademarks, patents or designs in India, you face two kinds of work. One is on the registry side: journal notices, renewals, hearings and deadlines at IP India. The other is on the court side: infringement suits, High Court IP Division orders and cause lists. Most tools are strong on only one of these. This page compares Claw and Questel Equinox for that work. They are not like-for-like products, so we compare them by job, not by a single score. Last verified October 2026.

The short answer
  • Different jobs: Questel Equinox is a global IP management and docketing system. Claw is an all-in-one India IP platform covering the IP India registry and Indian courts.
  • Choose Questel for global docketing and AI prior-art search.
  • Choose Claw for India-first registry plus court tracking in one place.
  • Pricing: Questel is quote-only. Claw Premium is Rs 1,099 per month or Rs 10,999 per year, excluding GST, with IP bundled in.
  • Limit: Claw does not yet track copyright registration.
  • Last verified: October 2026.

01The problem: Indian IP has a registry side and a court side

Protecting IP in India means watching two different systems at the same time.

The registry side

At IP India, a trademark is published in the Trade Marks Journal, and a conflicting mark can be opposed only within a short window after publication. Registered marks need renewal every ten years. Patents carry annual renewal fees and response deadlines. Designs and Geographical Indications have their own timelines. Miss one date and you can lose the right.

The court side

Infringement and passing off disputes run in the High Courts. The Delhi High Court has a dedicated IP Division (IPD), and its matters carry IPD case-type codes such as C.O.(COMM.IPD-TM) for rectification of trademarks. Someone has to follow hearings, orders and cause lists, and spot new suits filed against your mark or your client’s mark.

Two systems, two sets of tools

Traditional IP management software focuses on the registry side and on global portfolios. Litigation tools focus on courts. Teams often end up with a docketing system, a separate court tracker, and spreadsheets in between. The question is which setup fits your actual work.

02What Questel Equinox is

Equinox is a cloud-based intellectual property management system (IPMS) from Questel, a global IP technology company. Questel sells it in four editions: Equinox Law Firm, Law Firm+, Corporate and Corporate+. See Questel’s own pages for Equinox Law Firm and Equinox Corporate.

From Questel’s published material, Equinox is built to manage trademarks, patents and designs, and related matters such as opposition cases and litigation records, with docketing automation, a law engine for deadline rules, email integration, document management and a collaboration portal. Questel also offers AI features for patent work.

Where Questel is strong

  • Global portfolios: docketing and renewals across many countries, which suits multinational IP owners.
  • AI prior-art and patent search: Questel’s search and analytics tools are a recognised strength. If your main need is searching prior art or analysing patent landscapes, Questel is the stronger choice, and we concede that plainly.
  • Established firm workflows: a mature product for IP law firms and corporate IP departments.

What to keep in mind

  • Pricing is quote-only. Questel does not publish price lists.
  • It is a global IPMS. Its core job is portfolio and deadline management, not tracking Indian court cases party by party.
  • Setup and onboarding for a full IPMS can take time.

03What Claw does for IP in India

Claw is built around India. Its IPR Solutions tab covers the registry side, and its litigation tracking covers the court side, in one platform.

Registry side (IP India)

  • Tracks matters across trademarks, patents, designs and Geographical Indications.
  • Monitors the Trade Marks Journal and detects conflicting marks using text, phonetic and visual matching, then alerts you.
  • Shows pending compliances, including trademark renewals and patent annuity and response deadlines.
  • Lists pending hearings from trademark and patent filings, with related documents, tasks and activities.

Court side

  • Tracks IP litigation across every Indian court that has a case website, with party-name infringement discovery.
  • Follows the High Court IP Divisions, including Delhi IPD by case-type code such as C.O.(COMM.IPD-TM) and by court plus case number or party, with hearings, orders and cause lists.
  • Adds IP judgment research over 30 crore+ judgments and Legal GPT. Claw tracks 9,102 courts, benches and forums, and search results come back in under 5 seconds. The Supreme Court is covered from 1950 and High Courts from 1990.

One honest limit

Claw does not yet track copyright registration at the Copyright Office. For copyright, Claw is court-side only.

05Pricing, sourced and dated

Prices below were checked in October 2026.

  • Questel Equinox: quote-only. Questel does not publish a price on its product pages (Questel IP management software page, retrieved October 2026). You need to request a quote. Third-party review sites show wide estimates, but these are not Questel’s own figures, so we do not repeat them. GST status: not stated by Questel, expect quotes to be exclusive of tax.
  • Claw: IP is bundled in the Premium plan at Rs 1,099 per month or Rs 10,999 per year, excluding GST, and in Enterprise (on quote). See clawlaw.in/price, retrieved October 2026. There is no IP-only plan. Claw also has a free plan for individual advocates, but the free plan is for individuals only, and enterprises and teams pay.

This is not a like-for-like price comparison. Equinox is a global portfolio system sold by quote. Claw is an India-focused platform that also includes case search, case management and AI tools in the same subscription.

06Who should buy which

Choose Questel Equinox if you run a multi-country portfolio, need global docketing and annuities, or want strong AI prior-art search. Large IP firms and multinational corporate IP teams usually fit here.

Choose Claw if your IP work is mainly in India and you want the registry side and the court side in one place. This suits Indian advocates, law firms and in-house teams who watch the Trade Marks Journal, track renewals and hearings, and follow suits in the High Court IP Divisions.

Use both if you have a global portfolio and also run heavy Indian litigation. Many teams will do this: Equinox for the global docket, Claw for India registry and court tracking.

For deeper background, see the trademark watch comparison and the design and GI portfolio guide.

07Who should NOT buy Claw

Claw is not the right tool for every IP team. Do not choose it if:

  • You need global, multi-jurisdiction docketing and annuities. Questel, Anaqua, Clarivate or Dennemeyer are better.
  • You run very high-volume IP docketing as a specialist IP firm. Tools such as Iolite or JSK are built for that scale.
  • Your work is USPTO or CIPO first. Alt Legal is a closer fit.
  • Your main need is AI prior-art or patent structure search. Questel, PatSnap or IPRally lead.
  • You need mass marketplace takedowns. Red Points or Corsearch are built for it.
  • You manage a technology transfer office lifecycle. Wellspring or Inteum fit better.
  • You need copyright registration tracking at the Copyright Office. Claw does not do this yet.

08Where Claw fits

Claw is an all-in-one legaltech platform for Indian advocates, law firms, and corporate legal teams, combining AI-based case search, an AI legal assistant (Legal GPT), case management, and compliance automation across all Indian courts and tribunals.

For IP, the point of Claw is that one platform covers both sides of Indian IP. The IPR Solutions tab handles IP India registry matters, and litigation tracking handles the courts. For an India-first team that wants both in one place, at a published price, Claw is the strongest all-in-one choice, while the specialists above stay ahead on global docketing and AI prior-art search. Claw does not name customers, because client details are confidential.
