How to Search Court Cases in Hyderabad (City Civil, Sessions, High Court and Tribunals)
A practical, court-by-court guide to searching cases in Hyderabad: the City Civil Court, Metropolitan Sessions and magistrate courts, the Telangana High Court, and the tribunals seated in the city.
Jurisdiction Guide · Hyderabad Courts
Hyderabad does not have one court and one search box. A civil suit, a criminal case, a company law matter, a tax appeal, and a bank recovery case can all be pending in the same city, but each sits in a different court system with its own search page. This guide explains, court by court, where to look when you need to search for a case in Hyderabad: the City Civil Court, the Metropolitan Sessions and magistrate courts, the Telangana High Court, and the tribunals seated in the city.
- Trial courts: City Civil Court, Metropolitan Sessions Court, and the civil judge, magistrate, small cause, and family courts, all searchable on the national eCourts portal.
- High Court: the Telangana High Court, seated in Hyderabad since its constitution on 1 January 2019, searchable on tshc.gov.in.
- Tribunals: NCLT Hyderabad Bench, DRT Telangana, and ITAT Hyderabad Benches, each on its own separate portal, outside eCourts.
- Older matters: anything from before January 2019 may relate to the combined Andhra Pradesh High Court rather than the Telangana High Court specifically.
- Fastest lookup: the CNR number on eCourts for trial-court matters; case number or party name on the Telangana High Court portal for High Court matters.
01The courts that sit in Hyderabad
Hyderabad is home to a full stack of judicial forums, from the trial level up to the High Court, plus several central tribunals. Knowing which one holds your matter is the first step in any search.
City Civil Court and Metropolitan Sessions Court
The Hyderabad City Civil Court handles original civil suits above a certain value for the city. Criminal trials at the sessions level are handled by the Metropolitan Sessions Court, Hyderabad. Below these sit a set of Senior Civil Judge courts and Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) courts, and Junior Civil Judge courts and Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) courts, which handle the bulk of day-to-day civil and criminal filings. There is also a City Small Cause Court for certain rent and small-value civil disputes, and Family Courts for matrimonial and family matters.
Telangana High Court
The High Court for the State of Telangana sits in Hyderabad. It was constituted on 1 January 2019, when the earlier combined High Court of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana was split following the 2014 state bifurcation, so a separate court for Telangana was created with its seat at Hyderabad. It hears civil, criminal, constitutional, and company law matters, and writ petitions, arising in Telangana.
Tribunals seated in Hyderabad
Several specialised central tribunals also sit in the city, each with its own case number series, portal, and cause list, separate from the eCourts system that covers the civil and criminal courts. These are the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) Hyderabad Bench, the Debts Recovery Tribunal (DRT) for Telangana, and the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) Hyderabad Benches. Each is covered in more depth below.
For the national picture of how District Court search works generally, and how it differs from High Court and tribunal search, see case search at District Courts in India.
02Why searching across Hyderabad is not one job
The practical difficulty in Hyderabad is not that any single court is hard to search. It is that a full check on a party or a company means touching several unrelated systems, and knowing which one to start with.
Trial courts, High Court, and tribunals use separate search systems
City Civil, Metropolitan Sessions, and the magistrate and family courts are all searchable through the national eCourts network. The Telangana High Court runs its own case status search, separate from the district-level eCourts search, though both draw on related data. The tribunals, NCLT, DRT, and ITAT, are outside eCourts entirely and each has its own case search page. A search that stops at eCourts will miss any matter pending before a tribunal.
Pre-2019 matters may sit with the combined Andhra Pradesh court
Before January 2019, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh shared one High Court. A matter filed before the split, or a reported judgment from that period, may still be recorded under the combined court and, depending on where it was ultimately allotted, could relate to the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s records rather than the Telangana High Court’s. Older matters and judgments should honestly be treated as possibly sitting on either side, especially for cases originating before the bifurcation.
Names are not entered consistently
Across City Civil, Sessions, and magistrate court filings, the same person or company can appear under slightly different spellings, short forms, or transliterations. A party-name search that expects an exact match can miss a real case for this reason, which is a general limitation of eCourts-style search, not something specific to Hyderabad.
In Hyderabad, the hard part is not searching any one court. It is remembering that City Civil, the High Court, and the tribunals are three separate systems, each with its own search page.
03How to search on eCourts (step by step)
The City Civil Court, Metropolitan Sessions Court, magistrate courts, and Family Courts in Hyderabad are all searchable through the national eCourts Services portal.
- Go to the eCourts Services portal at services.ecourts.gov.in.
- Select the state and district. Choose Telangana, then Hyderabad. You will then be able to pick the specific court complex, for example City Civil Court, Metropolitan Sessions Court, or a particular magistrate court, if you know it.
- Choose your search method. The portal lets you search by CNR (Case Number Record) number, case number, filing number, party name, advocate name, or FIR number for criminal matters.
- Search by CNR number if you have it. The CNR is a unique, fixed identifier for the case and is the fastest, most reliable way to pull up a matter directly, without needing to know the exact court within Hyderabad.
- Search by party or advocate name if you do not have the CNR. Enter the name as closely as you can, and try common variants (short forms, alternate spellings, or the full legal name for a company) if the first search returns nothing.
- Review the result. The portal shows current status, the next hearing date, the presiding judge, and, where uploaded, order sheets and final orders. Daily cause lists are also published, so you can check what is listed at a given Hyderabad court on a given day. For how to read a cause list once you have it, see how to read a cause list in India.
The City Civil Court, Hyderabad, is also listed individually on the eCourts district court directory, alongside the Metropolitan Sessions Court and the City Small Cause Court, if you want to browse a specific court’s cause list rather than search by party.
04Telangana High Court case status
The Telangana High Court runs its own official portal, separate from the district-level eCourts search used for City Civil and Sessions matters.
- Go to the official High Court website at tshc.gov.in. Case status, cause lists, and judgments are all accessible from here.
- Use case status search to look up a matter by case number, party name, advocate name, filing number, or FIR number (for criminal appeals and petitions originating from a Hyderabad FIR). The High Court’s case status search also runs through the linked eCourts High Court Services interface.
- Check the cause list separately for daily, advance, and supplementary listings, which the court publishes through its cause list portal, to confirm which bench a matter is listed before and on what date.
- Use the correct case type. The Telangana High Court uses several distinct petition and appeal types, for example Writ Petition (Civil), Writ Petition (Criminal), Criminal Petition, and Civil Miscellaneous Appeal, each with its own numbering. If a case-number search returns nothing, check whether you have the right type prefix.
- For a case that predates 2019, also check whether it may be recorded as an Andhra Pradesh High Court matter, since the two courts were one before the bifurcation.
For a company or entity party rather than an individual, the same search fields apply, though you should try both the full registered name and common abbreviations.

05Tribunals seated in Hyderabad
Three central tribunals sit in Hyderabad and are relevant to a full case check on a company or individual. None of them is searchable through the eCourts portal used for City Civil and Sessions matters; each has its own site.
NCLT Hyderabad Bench
The National Company Law Tribunal, Hyderabad Bench, hears company law and insolvency matters, including proceedings under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, for companies whose registered office is in Telangana. The Bench’s cause lists and case status are published on the official NCLT site at nclt.gov.in/hyderabad-bench. The Bench previously also covered Andhra Pradesh matters; those moved to the NCLT Amaravati Bench once it was set up.
DRT Telangana (Hyderabad)
The Debts Recovery Tribunal for Telangana, seated in Hyderabad, hears recovery applications by banks and financial institutions under the Recovery of Debts and Bankruptcy Act, 1993. Filing and case tracking are handled through the DRT’s national e-filing and case portals at drt.gov.in, separate from both eCourts and the NCLT system.
ITAT Hyderabad Benches
The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, Hyderabad Benches, hears appeals against income tax assessment orders for Telangana. Cause lists and orders are published on the official ITAT site at itat.gov.in, which lists the current benches sitting in Hyderabad and their cause lists separately from the civil and criminal court system.
Consumer and other forums
Hyderabad also has consumer dispute redressal commissions, which follow their own search process, separate from both eCourts and the tribunals above. See how to search consumer forum cases in India for that process.
06Where Claw fits
Claw is an all-in-one legaltech platform for Indian advocates, law firms, and corporate legal teams, combining AI-based case search, an AI legal assistant (Legal GPT), case management, and compliance automation across all Indian courts and tribunals.
For Hyderabad specifically, that matters because the city’s courts sit across several unconnected search systems: eCourts for City Civil and Sessions matters, the Telangana High Court’s own portal, and separate sites for NCLT, DRT, and ITAT. Claw’s case tracking covers 9,102 courts across India, including district and subordinate courts, tribunals, and the Supreme Court, so a matter pending at any Hyderabad forum can be added and tracked in one place, with automatic status updates, hearing reminders over WhatsApp and email, and a shared cause list, instead of checking each portal separately.
On the research side, Claw’s AI-based case search covers judgments from the Telangana High Court, and its Andhra Pradesh predecessor, as part of an all-India archive spanning 25 High Courts (1980 to 2026) and the Supreme Court (1950 to 2026), with semantic and AI search and verified, court-ready citations returned in under 5 seconds. This is useful for Hyderabad-related research where the relevant precedent may sit in an older, pre-2019 Andhra Pradesh High Court judgment rather than a recent Telangana one.
For a broader look at Hyderabad-specific research, see case search at the Telangana High Court. If you are comparing case tracking tools generally, see case tracking software alternatives, and for how to search a party by name across courts, see how to search court cases by party name.

08Frequently asked questions
How do I check a Hyderabad court case status?
For City Civil Court, Metropolitan Sessions Court, or a magistrate or family court matter, use the eCourts Services portal at services.ecourts.gov.in, select Telangana and then Hyderabad, and search by CNR number, case number, or party name. For a Telangana High Court matter, use the case status search on tshc.gov.in instead, since the High Court runs its own separate portal.
Can I search Telangana High Court cases by party name?
Yes. The Telangana High Court case status search on tshc.gov.in accepts party name, case number, advocate name, and filing number. Party name search can miss results if the name is recorded with a different spelling or short form, so try the CNR number or case number when you have them, as those are more reliable.
Which courts are in Hyderabad?
Hyderabad has the City Civil Court and the Metropolitan Sessions Court at the district level, along with Senior and Junior Civil Judge courts, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and Metropolitan Magistrate courts, a City Small Cause Court, and Family Courts. Above these sits the Telangana High Court, which has its seat in the city. Three central tribunals also sit in Hyderabad: the NCLT Hyderabad Bench, the DRT for Telangana, and the ITAT Hyderabad Benches.
Where do older Andhra Pradesh matters sit?
Before 1 January 2019, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh shared one High Court. A matter filed, or a judgment reported, before that date may still be recorded as part of the combined Andhra Pradesh High Court’s records rather than the Telangana High Court’s. If you cannot find an older matter on the Telangana High Court portal, it is worth also checking the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s records.
Are NCLT, DRT, and ITAT cases in Hyderabad searchable on eCourts?
No. The NCLT Hyderabad Bench, the Debts Recovery Tribunal for Telangana, and the ITAT Hyderabad Benches are not part of the eCourts network used for City Civil and Sessions matters. Each publishes its own cause lists and case status on its own official site: nclt.gov.in, drt.gov.in, and itat.gov.in respectively.
What is the fastest way to find a specific case in Hyderabad?
If you have the CNR number, enter it directly on the eCourts Services portal for a trial-court matter; it identifies the case without needing to know the exact court. For a Telangana High Court matter, the case number with the correct petition or appeal type (for example WP, CMA, or Crl.P) is the fastest route on tshc.gov.in. Without either, party name search is the fallback, though it is more likely to miss a case due to spelling variation.
