This guide shows how to check ITAT Delhi case status on the official portal at itat.gov.in, and that you can also check it in Claw by party name. It also covers which cases the Delhi benches hear and what each status word means.
- Official source: the ITAT portal at itat.gov.in, Delhi bench selected.
- Search by: PAN first, then appeal number with assessment year, then party name.
- Delhi benches cover: NCT of Delhi and several Haryana districts, decided by the assessing officer location.

02Steps to check status on the official ITAT portal
The ITAT runs one national website, and the Delhi benches use it like every other bench. The exact menu names can change, so treat the labels below as a guide.
- Go to itat.gov.in.
- Open the case status or case search option in the main menu.
- Select Delhi as the bench.
- Pick your search type. Start with PAN if you have it, because it is the most reliable way to find an income-tax appeal.
- Enter the PAN, or the appeal number and assessment year, or the party name. Type it exactly as it appears on the appeal.
- Submit, then open the matching row to see the status, the next date and any order.
Keep your appeal number handy. Delhi appeals normally carry an ITA number (income tax appeal), and the assessment year is part of how the case is identified.
03Search methods compared
Most Delhi tax appeals can be found three ways. Use the first one you have.
| Method | What you need | Best when | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| PAN | PAN of the appellant | You are the assessee or hold the PAN. Best first try. | A group with many PANs needs one search per PAN. |
| Appeal number | ITA number and assessment year | You have the appeal memo or an earlier order. | A wrong year or a typo gives no result. |
| Party name | Name of the assessee or the department | You do not have the PAN or number. | Spelling differences, company suffixes and old names can hide a case. |
If the first method returns nothing, try the next one before assuming the case is not listed.
04What the Delhi benches cover
The ITAT hears second appeals in income-tax matters, mostly against orders of the Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals), and also certain appeals against assessing officer orders. Which bench hears your case depends on the location of the assessing officer.
The Delhi benches cover the National Capital Territory of Delhi and several districts of Haryana, including Faridabad, Gurgaon, Sonepat, Rohtak, Karnal, Panipat, Rewari, Hissar, Jhajjar, Bhiwani and Mohindergarh. The Delhi benches sit at the World Trade Centre, Nauroji Nagar, New Delhi.
This matters for status checks. If your assessing officer is in Delhi or one of those districts, search the Delhi bench. If you pick the wrong bench, the search will find nothing even though the appeal exists. If you want the wider picture of tribunals, see tracking tribunal cases such as NCLT and NCLAT.
05Status words explained
The status field can look odd at first. These are the common words and what they usually mean.
| Status | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| Pending | The appeal is filed and has not been finally decided. It may still be waiting for a hearing. |
| Listed | The case is on the cause list for a given date. The bench may or may not take it up that day. |
| Heard | Arguments were taken. The decision may come later. |
| For orders | Hearing is over and the bench has reserved or will pass its order. Watch for pronouncement. |
| Disposed | The appeal has been decided. Download the order and note the date, because the time to appeal further runs from it. |
| Adjourned | The hearing was put off to a later date, often at a party request. |
Exact wording can differ on the portal. When a word is unclear, open the order sheet or the cause list entry for that date.
06Why a search finds nothing
A blank result does not always mean the appeal is missing. Check these first.
- Wrong bench. The assessing officer location decides the bench. Confirm it from the assessment order.
- Not yet registered. A freshly filed appeal can take time to show up, and it needs a number first.
- Name mismatch. The name in the system may differ from the name you use daily.
- Wrong assessment year. One letter or digit off, and the search fails.
If you track many appeals, doing this by hand every week gets tiring. That is the case for alerts.
