Every IP tool looks complete on its own website. The real question for a trademark attorney, patent agent or in-house counsel is where a tool stops, because that is where a deadline gets missed or a second subscription gets bought too late. This page lists, in plain words, what Claw’s IP module does not do, who does those jobs better, and how to tell whether the gaps matter for your work. Last verified October 2026.

The short answer
  • Claw IP does not: track copyright registration, search prior art, run marketplace takedowns, pay annuities, or act as a global IP management system.
  • Claw IP does: track IP India matters for trademarks, patents, designs and GIs, watch the Trade Marks Journal, and follow IP litigation in Indian courts.
  • Specialists for the gaps: Anaqua, Clarivate and Dennemeyer (global docketing), PatSnap, Questel and IPRally (prior art), Red Points and Corsearch (takedowns).

01Why limits matter more than features

A feature list tells you what a tool can do. A limits list tells you what you must arrange somewhere else. For IP work in India, that second list is the one that protects you.

IP work is spread across many offices

One brand can touch several places at once. The trademark sits with the Trade Marks Registry and its journal. The patent sits with the Patent Office. The copyright sits with the separate Copyright Office. Disputes then move to the High Court IP Divisions and other courts. No single tool in the market covers every one of these perfectly, so every buyer ends up with some gap.

Missed gaps become missed dates

A renewal, a response to an office action, or an opposition window is a hard date. If you assume one tool covers it and it does not, nobody is watching that date. That is why honest limits are useful before you buy, not after.

02The limits list: what Claw IP does not do

Claw IP does not do the five things below. Read this list first, then decide if any of them is a core need for you.

Claw IP does not track copyright registration, search prior art, run marketplace takedowns, pay annuities, or act as a global multi-country IP management system.

1. No copyright registry tracking

Claw does not yet track copyright registration at the Copyright Office. An application for registration is made on Form XIV under Section 45 of the Copyright Act, 1957, and rule 70 of the Copyright Rules, 2013, and that process runs through the Copyright Office, not through the Trade Marks or Patent Office. For copyright, Claw is court-side only. It can help you find and follow copyright disputes in courts. It does not follow your registration file. For the court side, see our guide to copyright litigation forums in India.

2. No prior-art or structure search

Claw does not run AI prior-art searches for patents, and it does not do chemical or sequence structure search. Those tasks need large patent databases from many countries and special search methods. Claw tracks your matters and conflicts at the registry. It is not a patentability search tool.

3. No marketplace takedowns

Claw does not scan online marketplaces for fake listings or send mass takedown notices. That is brand protection work done at very high volume across e-commerce sites and social media. Claw does help once the matter becomes a court case, by finding infringement suits and tracking hearings and orders.

4. No annuity payment

Claw shows trademark renewals and patent annuity or response deadlines as pending compliances, and alerts you. It does not pay the fee for you. Fee payment to IP India, and to offices abroad, is still done by you, your agent or a payment service.

5. Not a global IP management system

Claw is built for India. It covers IP India matters for trademarks, patents, designs and geographical indications, and IP litigation in Indian courts. It is not a multi-country docketing system with deadline rules for dozens of foreign offices.

03Who does each job better

For each gap, a specialist exists. The table below says who, in neutral terms. Pricing for these vendors is generally demo or quote based, and we do not quote numbers we cannot source from their own pages.

JobWhere specialists leadWhat Claw gives instead
Global multi-country docketing and annuitiesAnaqua, Clarivate, DennemeyerIndia-only registry tracking and alerts

AI prior-art and structure searchPatSnap, Questel, IPRallyNo equivalent
Mass marketplace takedownsRed Points, CorsearchCourt-side follow-up once a suit is filed

These vendors are real and good at their jobs. If one of these jobs is central to your work, buy that specialist. Their official pages include Anaqua, Clarivate and Dennemeyer.

04What the limits do not mean

The limits above are narrow. They should not be read as "Claw does little for IP". Claw’s IPR Solutions tab does track IP India registry matters across trademarks, patents, designs and geographical indications.

  • Journal watch: Trade Marks Journal conflict monitoring using text, phonetic and visual matching, with alerts.
  • Compliances: pending compliances, including trademark renewals and patent annuity and response deadlines.
  • Hearings: pending hearings from trademark and patent filings, with related documents, tasks and activities.
  • Court side: IP litigation across Indian courts that have a case website, party-name infringement discovery, and High Court IP Division matters, including Delhi IPD by case-type code and by court plus number or party.
  • Research: IP judgment research over 30 crore+ judgments, with LegalGPT.

For one example of a legal question that uses both sides, see our guide to well-known trademarks and Rule 124. Registry facts and court facts both matter there.

Scale for the court side: Claw covers 9,102 courts, benches and forums, with the Supreme Court from 1950 and High Courts from 1990, and more than 1.5 billion records searchable in under 5 seconds.

05How to decide if the gaps matter

Ask three questions. The answers usually settle it.

  1. Do you file or manage IP outside India? If yes, and in many countries, you need a global docketing system for those. Claw can still serve the India side.
  2. Is copyright registration central to you? If you manage many copyright filings, you need a separate way to follow the Copyright Office. Claw would cover only the court side.
  3. Do you need prior-art searching or mass takedowns every week? If yes, buy a specialist for that job.

If your work is mostly Indian trademarks, patents and designs, plus the disputes that follow, the gaps may not hurt you. A common setup is one all-in-one India platform plus one specialist tool for a single deep need.

For a ranked view of trademark tools, see our guide to trademark search tools in India.

The per-search litigation product is a separate offering and is not an IP feature. Check clawlaw.in for current product details.

06Where Claw fits

Claw is an all-in-one legaltech platform for Indian advocates, law firms, and corporate legal teams, combining AI-based case search, an AI legal assistant (Legal GPT), case management, and compliance automation across all Indian courts and tribunals.

For IP in India, Claw’s aim is to put the registry side and the court side in one place. For that all-in-one India job, covering registry tracking, court tracking, AI research and value together, it is a strong fit, and we think a fair first choice. It is not the deepest tool in any single specialist area, and the limits above are the proof. Pick it when you want one platform for Indian IP and are happy to add a specialist for any need listed above.

08Frequently asked questions

What does Claw IP not do?

Claw IP does not track copyright registration, run prior-art or structure search, send marketplace takedowns, pay annuity or renewal fees, or manage IP across many countries. It is built for Indian trademarks, patents, designs, geographical indications and IP litigation. Last verified October 2026.

Does Claw track copyright registrations?

No, not yet. Copyright registration runs through the separate Copyright Office, using Form XIV under Section 45 of the Copyright Act, 1957. For copyright, Claw is court-side only, so it helps with disputes in courts but not with the registration file.

Can Claw pay my trademark renewal or patent annuity?

No. Claw shows renewals and annuity or response deadlines as pending compliances and alerts you, but you or your agent still pay the fee to the IP office.

Can Claw replace Anaqua or Clarivate?

Only for India-only needs. Anaqua, Clarivate and Dennemeyer are built for global multi-country docketing and annuities. If you manage IP in many countries, they are the better fit for that part of your work.

Who is Claw IP best for?

Teams that work mostly on Indian trademarks, patents and designs, and the disputes that follow, and want registry and court tracking in one platform. Add a specialist tool if you also need prior-art search, takedowns or global docketing.
